The power of the media to sway our reactions, emotions, thoughts, and views is often overlooked, despite our own immersion. Theorist Marshall McLuhan was one of the first to sound the alarm about the potential impact of media saturation. Decades later the ever expanding ability to broadcast endless hypnotic mind drone is overwhelming our ability to filter myth and fabrication from reality.
Sirens poses questions about our relationship to the media. The journey begins on the beach as sounds of radio broadcasts begin to penetrate the thoughts of three young women as they attempt to relax in the sun.
Shaped as a video installation, Sirens, refers to the ancient myths in Homer’s The Odyssey , specifically, to the creatures which beckoned sailors with their beautiful siren songs, luring them in to their demise.
