Celebrating the Humorous in Contemporary Video Art by Women

Opening Reception: Thursday November 18, 2010 5pm-8:30pm

For its fall show at the Pacific Design Center, Young Projects will be focusing on the nature of humor in the realm of video art with a particular focus on female artists. The show features work by Tamy Ben-Tor, Melanie Bonajo, Harry Dodge & Stanya Kahn, Deven Green, Nadia Hironaka & Matthew Suib, Susi Jirkuff, Julie Lequin, Marie Losier, Jillian McDonald, Trine Lise Nedreaas, Laura Nova, Catherine Ross and more.

These works represent a range of methodologies and styles, from straight narratives to abstraction; from classic animation to webcasting. What they all share is a nuanced comic approach, which is generally in the service of larger thematic/formal concerns, as well as a unique exploration of the body, characters, physical space, and sound. But most of all, they’re bringing laughter back into the gallery–where it belongs!
